Brief text description Anecdotal evidence links fish deaths to the presence of shopping trolleys.
Long text description There is a rich literature describing injuries to children related to shopping trolleys, and how these might be prevented. However, evidence of the environmental impacts of trolleys abandoned in watercourses is only in grey literature and anecdotal at best. Reference 1, below, reports 23 deaths in one year, the deaths including "swans, geese and fish". Reference 2, reports on the nuisance caused by trolleys to fishermen but only attributes one fish death to the presence of a trolley and the circumstances here are somewhat unusual (see attachment). Photographs in Reference 3 apply a connection but this is not justified in the text.
History of development Research has been ongoing since 2005.
